DJOKOVIC VS NADAL: WHO WINS THE FRENCH OPEN 2020?

This weekend, the 124th edition of the French Open will come to a close. It's my guess that Djokovic will play against Rafael Nadal (their 56th meeting together) to decide who becomes the 2020 Men's Singles Champion.

I won't keep you reading through the article to find who my pick is for the title, it's Novak Djokovic, and here are my reasons for picking him over Nadal.

Rafael Nadal has the best record of anyone who has ever competed in the French Open. 100 Matches, 98 wins, and 2 losses. That's nothing short of superhuman. Since his debut in 2004 his only losses have come at the hands of Robin Soderling (2009), and Djokovic (2015). Astonishing!

So how then can I be sure that Djokovic will triumph come Sunday afternoon at Roland Garros? Actually, I can't be sure, it's going to be incredibly close, and the stats show why; it really can't be any closer between these two.

WHAT THE STATS TELL US:

Djokovic                              Nadal
             29                   Head to Head          26
     31/1                        YTD Win/Loss                15/4
    4                               YTD Titles                          1

The stats are telling us that at this time Djokovic is in dominant form and although it has been a crazy year, like true champions, both Djokovic and Nadal have come out of the COVID lockdowns without missing a beat, back to their best and completely dominating the draw at the French Open. Talk of the Next Gen players beginning to step up and ascend to the number 1 ranking has been premature. It's business as usual, and the NextGen players and their fans will have to wait for another year.

Djokovic and Nadal have also shown their class at this year's French Open by the way they have dominated in every match they have played. Matches have been short, they have been one-sided and they have been impressive. At this year's tournament, there has really been nothing to hint at which of the two players would win in a head to head final on Sunday.

WHY DJOKOVIC WILL TRIUMPH OVER NADAL

I'm picking Djokovic to win Sunday's final because at this moment he is the best player on the planet. Djokovic has fully matured as a tennis player, meaning he's technically, physically, and emotionally at his peak right now. Combine that with all the experience he has, and I just think It will take an enormous effort to beat him anywhere, and on any surface.

Nadal on the other hand is not quite the player he was. There will come a time when his French open reign will end. This year could be that time.

I predict that Djokovic will win in 4 sets
